By science fiction we mean writing that retains, to some degree at least, what Fredric Jameson described as a “‘hard-core’ commitment to old-fashioned ‘scientific’ SF.” [source]
By critical we mean science fiction that provides the interested reader with a considered assessment of the social and cultural circumstances in which it was produced.
